General
Do you have Wi-Fi?
There is no Wi-Fi on the property. Cell service is available but can be limited, so we recommend downloading anything you may need in advance.
Is there cell service?
Yes, Telus and Bell typically have reception, though it may be inconsistent depending on your location.
Summer Camping FAQ
Do you get a lot of bears in the campground?
We are located in bear country, and bears do live in the surrounding area. However, they are rarely seen in the campground and usually pass through without staying. Bears here are wild and are not fed by people or open garbage dumps.
To keep both guests and wildlife safe, we enforce strict food and garbage rules. If there is nothing to attract them, bears will continue moving through and avoid people.
Important bear-safety rules include:
• No food or garbage inside tipis or trapper’s tents (water only)
• No cooking or eating inside tipis or trapper’s tents
• All food, coolers, and scented items must be stored in a locked vehicle when not in use
• Garbage must be placed in bear-proof bins
• Leaving food unattended may result in fines or eviction
Can we cook at our campsite?
Yes, cooking is allowed at your campsite, but not inside tipis or trapper’s tents.
You may cook over an open fire, use a BBQ, or bring a camp stove. Please ensure all food smells are managed carefully, and store food and coolers in your vehicle when not in use.
Can we cook inside the tipis or trapper’s tents?
No. Cooking or eating inside tipis or trapper’s tents is not permitted. Food smells can attract wildlife and create unsafe conditions.
Where do we wash our dishes?
Dishes must be washed at your campsite only, not at water wells or bathrooms.
Please Bring:
• A water jug to carry water
• A pot or kettle to heat water
• A tub for washing dishes No cooking or eating inside tipis or trapper’s tents
There is no central dishwashing sink or grey water pit. Grey water may be disposed of in the outhouses. Please ensure all food scraps are removed from grey water before disposal to help prevent wildlife attraction.
How private are the campsites?
Our campsites are well spaced and separated by trees, offering a good level of privacy. Some sites are clustered and work well for families or small groups camping together.
Are the tipis and trapper’s tents waterproof?
Tipis are designed to handle a variety of weather conditions and perform better than standard tents, though they are not completely waterproof. They include rain catchers, wooden floors, and good ventilation.
Trapper’s tents have an additional fly over the sleeping area and an awning-covered deck, providing excellent shelter from rain and sun.
Are tipis, trapper’s tents, and tent/RV sites in separate areas?
No. Tipis and trapper’s tents are intermixed throughout the campground, with some tent and RV sites scattered among them.
How far is the campsite from where I park?
Any sites allow you to park right at your campsite. Some “walk-in” sites are set slightly back in the trees, with a short walk of approximately 10–50 seconds from the parking area.
Are tent and RV sites serviced? Do you have a dump station?
No, sites are not serviced. Washrooms and showers are available at the Trading Post, free of charge Water pumps, outdoor toilets, and bear-proof garbage bins are located throughout the campground. Dump stations are available nearby at Barrier Information Centre and Mt. Kidd RV Park.
What time is check-in and check-out?
• Check-in: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
• Check-out: By 11:00 a.m.
If you will be arriving late, please call ahead. Rental supplies must be picked up before 8:00 p.m.
What should we do if we are going to be late for check-in?
Please call if you expect to arrive after 8:00 p.m. If you need assistance after hours or in case of an emergency, the Trading Post information board lists the after-hours supervisor’s phone number.
Can I run a generator?
Generators are not permitted during quiet hours. (10:30 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.).
During the day, generators should be used sparingly between the hours of 8:00 – 10:00 & 18:00-20:00. Please do not bring older, loud generators as they disturb other guests enjoying the outdoors.
What are your quiet hours?
Quiet hours are from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
During this time, music must be turned off completely, and noise should be kept to a minimum.
Do you allow groups or teenagers?
We are a family-oriented campground focused on peace and quiet.
Teenagers are welcome with adult supervision (such as schools, Scouts, or church groups). All guests under 18 must have a parent or supervisor on site at all times. Large or party-style groups are not permitted.
Do you have Wi-Fi?
We do not offer Wi-Fi. Cell phone service is generally available. Some guests use personal hotspots or travel to nearby areas where Wi-Fi is available
Why isn’t there a garbage bin at every site?
For safety reasons, garbage must be stored in bearproof bins or locked vehicles. This helps prevent wildlife encounters and keeps the campground safe for everyone.
Is it pet-friendly?
Yes, Sundance by Basecamp is pet-friendly in designated accommodations. Pets are not permitted in tipis. Well-behaved pets are welcome in approved accommodations, provided they are kept on a leash at all times and are not left unattended at the campsite.
A maximum of two pets per site is permitted, with a fee of $25 per night, per animal.
Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets and ensuring they do not disturb other guests or wildlife. Please contact us in advance for current pet policies, restrictions, and accommodation availability
How close is the campsite to nearby attractions?
Sundance by Basecamp is centrally located in Kananaskis Country, offering easy access to a wide variety of nearby outdoor attractions. Many popular hiking and biking trails are just a short drive away, and the Kananaskis River is easily accessible from the
campground.
Kananaskis Village, where you’ll find additional services, dining options, and Wi-Fi access, is also a short drive from the campground, making Sundance an excellent base for exploring the area.
Canmore is approximately 35 minutes away, and Banff is about one hour from the campground.

Is bedding included or should we bring our own?
Bedding is not included with all accommodations. Guests staying in tipis or trapper’s tents should bring their own bedding, including sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets, or arrange to rent bedding in advance.
If you have booked a Glamping Tent, all linens and towels are provided for your convenience.
Please review your booking details carefully and contact us ahead of your stay if you wish to reserve bedding rentals, as availability may be limited.

Won’t my food freeze in the car overnight?
Yes—food can freeze overnight during winter conditions. To help prevent this, you may store food in an insulated container, such as a cooler, inside your vehicle.
For added convenience, we provide a heated food storage space located at the back of the Trading Post, accessible 24/7. Totes and shelving are provided to help keep your food and coolers safe overnight. Please remember that food is not permitted inside
Glamping Tents, as food smells can attract wildlife.

During the winter season, we do not operate the campground at full capacity, allowing sites to be more widely spaced and providing additional privacy for our guests.
How warm are the tents?
Our winter tents are double-walled with insulated floors, designed to retain heat during cold weather. All winter tents are equipped with propane heaters, and our larger Deluxe and Family tents also include a wood stove for additional warmth and comfort.
How far is the campsite from where I park? tents, and tent/RV sites in separate areas?
All winter tents allow you to park directly at your site, within approximately 10–15 metres of your tent’s entrance.
A maximum of two vehicles per site is permitted.
Can I have visitors?
Yes, visitors are permitted; however, all visitors must register with the office upon arrival and park at the Trading Post.
All visitors must leave the campground before the office closes at 8:00 p.m.
Do you offer winter camping?
Yes, we do offer winter camping.
Please note that all winter campsites are unserviced, and there are no dump facilities on site.
What time is check-in and check-out?
• Check-in: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
• Check-out: By 11:00 a.m.
If you will be arriving late, please call ahead. Rental supplies must be picked up before 7:00 p.m.
During the week of your stay, you may have the option to request an early check-in or late departure for an additional fee through our online CANARY application, subject to availability.
What should we do if we are going to be late for check-in?
Please call if you expect to arrive after 7:00 p.m. We will leave a late-arrival map on the front door of the Trading Post with directions to your tent. Please come see us in the Trading Post the following morning to complete check-in.
If you need assistance after hours or in case of an emergency, the Trading Post information board lists the after-hours supervisor’s phone number.
Can I run a generator?
Generators are not permitted during quiet hours (11:00
p.m. – 7:00 a.m.).
During the day, generators should be used sparingly
between the hours of 0700-1100 & 1900-2100. Please
do not bring older, loud generators as they disturb
other guests enjoying the outdoors.

Is bedding included or should we bring our own?
During the winter season, we operate Glamping Tents only. All bedding and towels are included with your Glamping Tent for your comfort and convenience.
If you require additional bedding, we offer bedding rentals as well as camp stove and cooking kit rentals, which can be reserved in advance, subject to availability.
Please review your booking details carefully and contact us ahead of your stay if you would like to reserve any rental items.

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Check-out is at 11:00 AM.
What if I arrive late?
If you plan to arrive after 8:00 PM, please call ahead. You’ll receive your site number in advance and can set up quietly upon arrival.
Camping & Accommodations
How far is parking from my site?
Most sites are a short walk from parking. Some allow parking directly beside the site, while others are “walk-in” and may take 10–50 seconds to access.
How private are the campsites?
Sites are spaced out with trees and natural surroundings, offering a good level of privacy. Some sites are grouped for families or small groups.
Are tipis and tents waterproof?
Tipis are weather-resistant but not fully waterproof in heavy or prolonged rain. Trapper’s tents have additional coverage and are generally more protected.
Facilities & Amenities
Are campsites serviced?
No, sites are unserviced. Washrooms and showers are available at the Trading Post, along with water pumps and garbage stations.
Where do I wash dishes?
Dishes must be washed at your campsite using a wash basin. Please do not wash dishes at water wells or in shared facilities.
Food & Wildlife Safety

Groups & Atmosphere
Is this a party campground?
No. Sundance is a quiet, family-focused campground with strict quiet hours. Parties and excessive noise are not permitted.
Can we book for a group or reunion?
Small, respectful groups are welcome. Larger or party-style groups may be better suited to designated group campgrounds in the area.
Connectivity & Work
Can I work remotely from the campground?
There is no Wi-Fi, but some guests use mobile hotspots or travel to nearby Kananaskis Village for connectivity.
