Just an hour from Calgary, Sundance by Basecamp offers a laid-back retreat in the heart of Kananaskis Country—putting you right at the edge of adventure. Set along the Kananaskis River and framed by the Rockies, it’s the perfect blend of comfort and simplicity.

Whether you’re booking a weekend with friends, packing up the kids, or planning a quick couple’s getaway, this place makes getting outside feel easy, fun, and unforgettable. From cozy trapper’s tents, glamping retreats and tipis to classic campsites and convenient amenities, it’s all the good of being outdoors—without the stress.

Things to Do While You’re Here

You don’t need a plan to make the most of Sundance—but when you’re ready to move, there’s plenty to do.

Challenge your friends to a round of badminton or volleyball. Toss some horseshoes, or kick off a laid-back soccer match in the open grassy field or opt for a walk along the Kananaskis River.

When it’s time to explore beyond camp, we’ve got you covered. Book with Basecamp and unlock exclusive discounts on local adventures—from whitewater rafting and caving to horseback riding at Boundary Ranch. Or take advantage of our new partnership with Mountain Park Transportation and enjoy discounted shuttle service to Moraine Lake and Lake Louise.

Stay Your Way

Whether you’re rolling in with your own tent or looking for something with a little more comfort, Sundance offers a range of stays that bring you closer to nature—without complicating the experience.

Campsites

Prefer to set up your own? Choose from ten unserviced sites—three walk-in tent sites, one pull-through, and six drive-up spots. Each includes a picnic table and firepit with a half-grill—perfect for cooking dinner under the trees and winding down by the fire.

Tipis & Family Tipis

Canvas-covered, quiet, and close to nature. These simple setups include up to four foam mattresses (bedding not included, but rentals are available), plus a fire pit and picnic table, just outside. A kerosene heater and lantern add warmth and light. Perfect for two to four guests, depending on the tipi.

Looking for a little extra serenity? Some Family Tipis are available riverside.

Trapper’s Tents

Rustic and relaxed, these walk-in canvas tents sleep four and include foam mattresses, a covered deck, and a firepit with a half-grill. Bring your own bedding or rent it in advance. Pet-friendly, peaceful, and perfect for slow mornings in the mountains. Some Trapper’s Tents are also available riverside for an added sense of calm and connection to the landscape.

Glamping Tent

For a cozy, low-key upgrade. These tents feature a queen bed with linens, solar-powered chargers, towels, a firepit, Adirondack chairs, and a small cooking bench. Everything you need for a comfortable night under the stars.

Canvas Bell Tent

Set for four, this ready-to-go canvas tent includes four single beds, solar lighting, vinyl flooring, and a firepit with half-grill. No heater—just fresh air, open skies, and more time to enjoy the outdoors.

Deluxe Glamping Tent

Space for four with two queen beds, linens, solar lighting, a wood-burning stove, and your own private outhouse. Outside, enjoy a picnic table, firepit, and chairs made for mountain stargazing.

Family Tent

Designed for groups up to six, this roomy setup includes two queen beds, a pullout sectional, a live-edge table, wood stove, solar lighting, and a private outhouse. It’s glamping, dialed in—made for meals, game nights, and fireside stories.

On-Site Essentials

You’re off-grid, but far from roughing it.

Water and power are always nearby. Fill up with drinkable water at the Trading Post, and use additional wells for rinsing throughout the site. While there’s no electricity at individual sites, charging outlets are available in the washrooms.

Hot showers and shared washrooms are located behind the Trading Post (and yep, they’re free!). Some glamping setups include private outhouses for added comfort.

Firewood and propane are available on-site, or bring your own (Alberta-sourced only). Bear-proof bins are placed throughout camp to keep wildlife safe.

Then there’s the Trading Post—part general store, part coffee stop, part “I forgot toothpaste” solution. Swing by for coffee (9 AM–12 PM), snacks, groceries, ice cream, or to rent whatever you need—bedding, gear, firewood, propane, and more.

Want to skip the prep? Add a food package to your booking and we’ll have it ready when you arrive.

Sundance is all about slowing down and staying close to what matters—quiet mornings, starry nights, and simple moments outdoors. And now, from May 19 to June 12, you can stay a little longer with our limited-time offer: book two midweek nights (Sunday–Thursday) and get the third night free. The offer excludes bare campsites and is only available at Sundance.

More time outside. On us.
